 Sleep Center Capabilities

Diagnostic Testing

  • Polysomnogram (PSG): An overnight sleep study performed on-site in our state-of-the-art center. All rooms are private, and testing includes the monitoring of brain waves, breathing respirations, heart rate, leg movements and oxygen saturation.
  • MSLT: Multiple Sleep Latency Testing tests the possibility for narcolepsy. This test involves a series of time naps in order to evaluate excessive daytime sleepiness and is performed following an overnight PSG.
  • CPAP: Continuous Positive Airway Pressure is a device used to treat obstructive sleep apnea. CPAP levels are monitored and titrated to fit the patient’s individual needs. Patients must meet certain specific criteria to be eligible for this treatment.
  • BiPAP: Bi-level Positive Airway Pressure is a device used to treat obstructive sleep apnea and other sleep-related breathing disorders. BiPAP levels are monitored and customized to each patient’s needs. Patients must meet certain specific criteria to be eligible for this treatment.

Common Sleep Disorders

  • Sleep apnea: A serious, potentially life-threatening condition in which breathing stops many times a night for periods of up to two minutes. Sleep apnea often involves loud snoring and can cause excessive daytime sleepiness.
  • Snoring: Often nothing more than a nuisance, frequent or loud snoring can be a sign of sleep apnea.
  • Chronic insomnia: The inability to fall asleep or remain asleep. This disorder can be caused by a variety of conditions, including sleep apnea, periodic limb movements or the misuse of sleeping pills.
  • Narcolepsy: A chronic, neurological disorder that causes a person to fall asleep suddenly many times a day, often at inappropriate times.
  • Restless leg syndrome: A disorder that causes people to have a “crawling” sensation in their legs when they lie down to sleep, which disappears after they move their legs.
  • Periodic limb movement disorder: A disorder that causes arms or legs to jerk repeatedly during sleep, resulting in a tired feeling upon waking. Most people are not aware of their repetitive limb movements.
  • Work-Shift Change Syndrome: Shift workers, college students and others who have irregular sleep cycles can suffer from tiredness and insomnia. This can cause trouble with concentration and performance.
  • Sleepwalking: A sequence of behaviors that can cause a person to get out of bed and walk without full consciousness.
  • Nocturnal seizures: Abnormal movements during sleep that may be due to treatable epileptic seizures.
