The Pediatric Neurosurgery Center is a comprehensive pediatric neurosurgical program that focuses on the care of infants, children, adolescents and young adults. Pediatric neurosurgery involves the evaluation and treatment of infants and children with cranial and spinal cord disorders.
Pediatric neurosurgery is a highly specialized field because children differ from adults in that their nervous systems and bodies are still growing. The board-certified neurosurgeons at Medical City Children’s Hospital have extensive pediatric training—including specialized fellowships—and experience. They are also actively involved in the continuing development of their specialty as authors and lecturers. They are supported by an interdisciplinary medical staff, including pediatric anesthesiologists, intensive medicine specialists, pediatricians, neonatologists, neurologists, physical medicine specialists, oncologists and craniofacial specialists.
The Pediatric Neurosurgery Center contributes to the multidisciplinary treatment of conditions—such as epilepsy, spasticity, and craniofacial and other congenital anomalies—where follow-up involves many specialists. The Center also is actively involved in the advancement of clinical and basic science research through new clinical therapies and the promotion of Dallas as a center for pediatric neurosurgery education.
