The Medical City Children's Hospital Neuroscience Program treats a wide variety of conditions.

Pediatric Neurosurgery services include:

  • Hydrocephalus management, including ventriculoperitoneal shunts (VPS) and endoscopic third ventriculostomy (ETV)
  • Brain tumor treatment
  • Neuro-endoscopy
  • Skull base surgery
  • Spina bifida treatment, both pediatric and adult
  • Spasticity treatment, including boclofen pump and selective dorsal rhizotomy (SDR)
  • Craniofacial reconstruction
  • Trauma treatment
  • Epilepsy surgery, including vagus nerve stimulation (VNS), lobectomy, corpus callosotomy, hemisectomy
  • Perinatal consultation
  • Intracranial pressure monitoring

Pediatric Neurology Services Neurologists specialize in the medical diagnosis and treatment of disorders and diseases affecting the brain, spinal cord and nervous system. Pediatric Neurology Services are provided by neurologists specially trained in pediatric and child neurology. Along with general pediatric neurology services, specific conditions treated include:

  • Pediatric epilepsy
  • Infantile spasms
  • Movement disorders
  • Headache management
  • Brain tumors
  • Attention deficit and hyperactivity disorders

Neurorehabilitation Services are provided in an outpatient setting by physiatrists, physicians specially trained in physical medicine and rehabilitation. The goal of neurorehabilitation is to maximize a child’s functional abilities through management of therapy for cerebral palsy, spasticity, epilepsy and other neurological problems. Neurorehabilitation services include:

  • Physical and occupational therapy
  • Rehabilitation counseling
  • Speech therapy
  • Recreation therapy
  • Audiology

The Neurophysiology Department of the Neuroscience Program focuses on the physiology of the nervous system, conducting treatment and research activities including:

  • EEG (electroencephalogram)
  • Long-term epilepsy monitoring
  • Evoked potentials
  • BAER (Brainstem/Auditory Evoke Response)
  • SER (Upper Extremity Somato-Sensory Response)
  • VER (Visual Evoke Potentials)
  • LER (Lower Extremity Somato-Sensory Response)
