June 29, 2006 Medical City Craniofacial Surgeon Jeffrey A. Fearon Named President of the American Society of Craniofacial Surgery
Medical City is proud to announce that Jeffrey A. Fearon, MD, has been named president of the American Society of Craniofacial Surgery (ASCFS), a medical professional organization representing craniofacial plastic surgeons. Dr. Fearon is director of The Craniofacial Center at Medical City.
“As president of ASCFS, my goals include focusing on the training of craniofacial surgeons who are the future of this specialty providing the public with basic information about craniofacial birth defects,” said Dr. Fearon.
The mission of ASCFS is to serve as a forum for the exchange of knowledge pertaining to the practice of craniofacial surgery; to stimulate research, investigation and teaching in methods of preventing and correcting congenital and acquired craniofacial deformities; to enhance the study of craniofacial surgery; and to encourage the recognition of craniofacial surgery.
Dr. Fearon received his medical degree in 1981 from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He completed a full six-year general surgery residency at the Deaconess/Harvard Fifth surgical service in Boston and a plastic surgery residency at the Massachusetts General Hospital -- both associated with Harvard Medical School. After a one-year fellowship with the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia at the University of Pennsylvania, he came to Medical City and joined the Dallas Craniofacial Center as a director. He has also served the hospital as both chief of plastic surgery and chairman of the department of pediatrics. Dr. Fearon received his board certification from the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS) in 1993.
Dr. Fearon is actively engaged in craniofacial research. He has authored numerous scientific articles and book chapters and has received a U.S. patent for a bone distraction device used to treat unusual birth defects. He served as secretary/treasurer of the ASCFS for a two-year term prior to being named president. He served on the Executive Council of the Texas Society of Plastic Surgeons from 2003-2004 and continues to serve on many community boards. Back to Newsroom
